Slaughterhouse-five Entry #1
Vonnegut starts the book by talking in first person about his experiences of the Dresden Bombing in Germany. He explains of his attempts to try to write a book but he struggles because of all that he has seen and the great destruction. He talks about his time as a prisoner of war and the events that got him returned. After war Vonnegut worked many variour jobs including a police reporter, and a public relations man for a company. Vonnegut was also a student of the University of Chicago. The start of the book is fairly autobiographical and background information on Vonnegut, he is viewed as the character. Before being drafted into the Army Billy is going to school to be an optometrist. Billy has lived through many stressful situations such as a nervous collapse, and plane crash. Billy then goes into talking about how he first entered the army and what his experiences were like.
